Sierra Smokehouse BBQ
By Trevor | August 20, 2008
A new Barbecue Restaurant and catering company has just opened in Cameron Park, called Sierra Smokehouse BBQ, and the Barbecue at this place is INCREDIBLE! Being a big rib fan I had to try this place, and just walking up to it made my mouth water. The smell of the smoker was so unique that it stuck in my mind for hours, and that was just the tip of the iceberg. The owner and pit master Ed Anhorn is a competition BBQer and a certified BBQ Judge. Ed’s passion for cooking and BBQ is that of a true artist, and his art is meat. Ed has won several awards for his BBQ at local California BBQ competitions, but those awards simply don’t do his BBQ justice. I sampled his pulled pork and it was some of the juiciest and most flavorful pork that I have ever tasted, but what really topped it off was Ed’s spicy vinegar sauce. This combination of expertly crafted meat and sauce made the Pork was change its flavor as I ate it. I also sampled the beef brisket, though I am not usually a fan of beef this, brisket was the BEST beef I have ever had, so tender it was like butter! Absolutely Incredible! Finally I sampled ED’s Ribs, and I swear these ribs changed their flavor 5 times as I ate them, From the initial taste to the after taste, these ribs were absolutely beyond belief in their taste and texture. Words do not do Ed’s BBQ justice by any stretch of the imagination, they are simply an experience that cannot be missed!
Sierra Smokehouse BBQ is located on the corner of Greenwood lane right next to Caffe Santoro in Cameron Park just off of Cambridge Rd. If you would like to find out more or place an order, their phone number is (530) 333-5015. You can also check out Ed’s competition team at www.addictedtorub.com

Cherry Creek Run - Upper Tuolumne River
By Trevor | July 22, 2008
Last Tuesday we packed up and headed out to the Tuolumne River near Yosemite, our goal the Cherry Creek Run. Cherry Creek is considered the most difficult commercially rafted stretch of river in the nation, and the Creek live up to that claim! We camped the night before and on Wednesday morning we set out on our journey down the Tuolumne. I have personally never run the Tuolumne, however one of our guides had been running Cherry Creek for the previous two days.
Put in alone was unbelievable, it was a 30 foot drop down a rocky hillside.
The day started off with an intense rapid called “Entrance Exam”, this rapid literally started right at put in. This rapid really set the stage for the character of the entire run. It was solid Class V all the way, and the spots that we were able to rest were as intense as the most difficult sections of the South Fork of the American river, I never thought that the middle of a Class III rapid would be an appropriate place to take a break.
These are just two of the rapids we ran Mushroom and Toadstool. These rapids were incredibly intense, the pictures definitely do not do these beasts justice.
Cherry Creek was definitely the biggest adrenaline rush that I have ever experienced in my life. This river is one of the top rivers on my favorite list. We are currently putting together an amazing video about the most intimidating rapid on the run called Lumsden Falls.
Additionally We took the opportunity to run the remainder of the Tuolumne all in one day, which all totaled came out to be a 26 mile run. The Lower Tuolumne was just as breathtakingly beautiful as Cherry Creek. The water was so clean and clear that no matter how deep it got you could still see to the bottom of the river. The canyon was absolutely spectacular as well, this run one easily one of the most beautiful rivers. The South Fork of the American definitely comes close to this spectacular stretch of river and is an excellent warm up to polish your rafting skills on before challenging other rivers.
